That could work. I school in Lancaster, it's not too far.

...I could conceivably do this! According to Amtrak, it is possible for me to get down there and back without even missing any work. I'm not sure how your public transportation is, though. Is it easy to get around without a car? Or could somebody pick me up?

I may even have accomodations, but I'll have to check on that (I have an uncle that lives down there who invited me to crash with him if I was ever in town, but I'll have to see if that could work out). If that doesn't work, does somebody have a couch or floor I could possibly crash on for a night?

The only thing I know about Richmond, regarding transportation is that you never want to be driving past it around rush hour. It'll add at least four hours onto your drive time.

It'll probably be best if we pick a place walking distance from the train station for the meet. Some type of restaurant, bar, or shopping mall. Unfortunately, I don't know what's down there. I'm probably going to be staying at a friend's place (if he'll let me) if not I'll probably only make it down for the day. Classes means little time for working and my bank account would probably shoot me if I paid for a hotel room.

Well, I don't have a car, so rush hour shouldn't be a problem ^^ (besides, if we do this it has to be a Saturday or I'll have to miss work).

If it comes down to it, I wouldn't object to splitting a hotel room for a night, if a cheap one could be located, but hopefully both of our free accomodations will work out. ^^ I just need to know when we want to schedule this thing so I can call my uncle and see if he'd be okay with it.

...I wonder if I should invite [livejournal.com profile] ocelotspots to this shindig... she's just across the river from me, but I don't know if she'd be willing/able/interested. Hmm. If she's interested, I'd have to see if my uncle Dave could take another person, or, worse-to-worst for all of us, we'd possibly have a 3-way hotel room split for a single night, which from long experience at cons I can say is not very expensive. Hmmm..... >.> *thinks thinky thoughts*

Cheap is definitely the name of the game here, but for me, really, I have to spend the night while I'm down there. The trip is just waaaaaaay long for only an afternoon visit and then turning around and hopping back on the train.

Blaaaaah. It can all be worked out! ^_^ We really need to start with when we want to do this; then all the logistics can come from that.

I say we invite as many people as possible to this shindig! Non-UK Merlin Fan Untie and all that jazz. [livejournal.com profile] ocelotspots is most certainly invited.

As for a when, I guess it matters more if we're trying for a spontaneous meet-up where whoever can show up will, or a longer planned one in the hopes that more people can come. I wouldn't be opposed to trying for sometime over the winter break but I know a lot of people already have plans for that with families. We might do better sometime mid-February after everyone's settled back into routine.

Yeah, I think more planning time would be good. And we will hopefully have the US Merlin fans comm by that point, which will be good for planning purposes! But we should make sure that we have it fairly early in the new year, I think. If we get too far into the spring, it starts to be con season... Mid-February sounds like probably a good plan. Hahahaha, we could totally have it on Valentine's Day! XDDDDDDD (Yeah, probably not, cuz people will have plans, but still--lulz!)

I will have to be sure to tell her that this is in the works, then... *makes notes* Once we have the US comm, I think it'll be easier to get the word out about this, but we should pick the date first. Trying to pick a date for a meetup by having everyone vote on it is just completely insane. @_@ *speaks from long experience*
